Thursday August 9, 2007, the American central bank transmitted 24 billion dollars at the money market to try to slow down the rise of the interest rates in the United States. The following day, it again issued 38 billion dollars. Indeed since several months, several millions of Americans (between one to three millions) with low incomes, are likely to lose their housing bought with loans at fluctuating rates. They have no possibility to refund their loans which became too expensive. They are so numerous that that caused:

Rise of the interest rates;
The fall of the prices of the real estate with the increase in the offer;
Difficulties for the banks for the constitution of their reserves and the fall of their profits;
And finally a risk of deceleration of the development.

Therefore the central banks intervened in the United States and in Europe to give liquidities and try to stop the rise of the interest rates. In many countries, falls from 2 to 3% of the quoted securities occurred as far back as on July 26, 2007.
